There are up to 100 painters at the Tingatinga Cooperative in Tanzania which makes it impossible to track all paintings. Here you see only the best art works by the most popular artists. Being the best means that these paintings are sold quickly. I can´t update the information on the website every day. But if you send me the code of the painting I can tell you if it is still available as well as the price.

Jaffary Mimus. one of founders of Tingatinga Cooperative in 1990. He has always a big stock of paintings. It took time for manager to apreciate them but once he did it it was as strong as a love. He uses warm colors he has distinguished style.

JAFFARY MIMUS - A PERSONAL STORY


Brother of Mimus is living in south Tanzania. His name is Mteko and he has a big family. He moved far from village to remote place in wilderness. But long time ago he was also a painter in Dar es Salaam. He lived with sister Jean and was active at the House of Culture. Very big thing.


We had a big party in in the wilderness. On left you see the brother of Charinda (see here) and me (on right hand is Mimus brother) Charinda´s brother had also painted very long time ago in Dar es Salaam. He is a thin man, opposite to Mr. Charinda.


There were no hotels in south Tanzania so I stayed in the hut of Mimus brother. Here on photo you see the motorbike and Ilona, my friend who were very scared for the motorbike. At night Mimus brother told us the old african stories.

What you won´t get in real life, get it online! Why does your souvenir from Zanzibar crack? The painters used wheat and water as a basic! Did you get a surprise at home when stretching the painting on the frame? The frame from Tanzania was irregular! Does the canvas look like a bed sheet? Probably the painter bought the cheapest possible textile. Is your painting signed as "Tingatinga"? Then you have a fake! We use high quality colors and canvases. With the permission of the artists, I leave these unique images here.  Feel free to use the images on your website, but write to info@tingatinga.org first. The artists are also licensing the images for any commercial exploitation for a reasonable fee. Most of the artists enjoy the freedom to paint what they want at the moment but our most loyal customers are welcomed to order similar paintings. The price will be then much higher but you will get a photo while the painter creates your art work.  The orders of these paintings are exclusive and we recommend looking first at the available paintings for replacement.
